Sunday Blues

I've been meaning to update my Blog since last sunday(do have some pics & story to share). However, I was too occupied with the story of Gary and Ah Seng with their birding experience at the other side of the coast(Sandakan). Came Monday, stress started to creep in due too work. I just didn't have the right mind to Blog...

I still remember the greeting I had when I went to the WWII Memorial park last Sunday. It was a brief encounter I had with a tiny but beautiful some kind of Flowerpecker. Too bad tho coz I only managed to release my shutter twice at it;


The other came out blurred! My 40D maybe an assault rifle...but this beautiful bird just too fast. In a flash...then it was gone!

I went to the small pond to try my luck again. I saw a couple of Pied Fantail and waited for it to come closer to the spot I was...and obviously...

Not long after that it started raining, funny tho coz the sky above was blue! Only after I ran out from the bush I saw the black cloud moving fast towards me. Packed my things and quickly drove home. It didn't rain here, I saw a Spotted-necked Dove on the other side of the fence and have a shot at it;

After a few hours at home and after a long chat with Gary, I decided to head back to the park again. The rain had stopped since, so I couldn't just waste my weekend. Still had a few potential hours...

I was in quite a bit of luck when I saw a kingfisher perched on a branch a few yards from me. I hid behind a tree and started to shoot. I've never managed to get so close to this magnificent bird before. Considering the poor camo and short lens mounted on my EOS40D, it's not too bad I guess;

Hoping to catch the Crimson Sunbird at a nearby Hibiscus tree with a few blooms, I caught a sunbird instead;

I thought I would strike the jackpot when I saw a Pied Triller on top of the tree near me! This has got to be the day I would nail a good shot of this bird I thought to myself! Unfortunately, it proved to be so hard to shoot even when it was so close. They just don't stay still! In the end, of the numerous shot I took, this was the best one;

Not an impressive shot I must admit. I know I can do much better than this, perhaps next time. Rest assured they will be next time...

Walking slowly to my car to end the day,with some mixed feeling going on my head, I had a boost of morale when I saw a Greater Coucal in flight in a nearby bushes. Yes...another good reason to go birding at the WWII Memorial Park again...next time...
